Makalei offers 18 holes of cool, woodland play, scenic vistas, and distinctive features, including smooth-rolling Bentgrass greens providing a golf experience unlike any other in the state. Designed in 1992 by Dick Nugent, the 7,091-yard course unulates through native forests on the lower slopes of Hualalai – the third highest peak on Hawaii Island, overlooking the sprawling Kona-Kohala Coast. Elevations from 1,800 to 2,850 feet provide challenging play, panoramic coastal views, and nesting areas for pheasants, turkeys, and other wildlife including over 100 wild peacocks.
With four sets of tees ranging from 5,242 to 7,091 yards, Makalei presents all golfers, from novice to expert.
